July: Yellowface by R.F. Kuang
July introduces Yellowface by R.F. Kuang, a sharp and gripping exploration of cultural appropriation, identity, and ambition. When a white writer steals the manuscript of a deceased Chinese-American author, she begins to pass off the work as her own, all while grappling with the ethical and personal cost of her deception. With Kuang’s razor-sharp prose and darkly satirical tone, Yellowface dives deep into the complex dynamics of race, privilege, and the commodification of identity. It’s a thought-provoking, provocative, and ultimately unsettling reflection on the lengths people will go for success—and the consequences of those actions.
