The Erie Canal: Celebrating 200 Years: Thursday, July 24 at 5:00 presented by Robin Catalano

The Erie Canal is one of the most influential human-made waterways in American history. It opened access to the North American interior from the Atlantic seaboard and established New York as a leading state in population, industry, and wealth throughout much of the nineteenth century.

Award-winning journalist, Robin Catalano will be at SML to talk about the Erie Canal, it's history and how it has transformed from a commercial shipping powerhouse to top recreational asset. Robin has written three articles about the Erie Canal, one of which was written for the BBC and won the 2025 Solas award. Join us for this interesting and engaging talk about the Erie Canal.
