📚 Banned Books Read-In
Date & Time:
Tuesday, October 7, 2025
3:00 – 6:00 PM
Location:
Menands Public Library
Event Description:
Celebrate the freedom to read during our Banned Books Read-In, a silent gathering that shines a light on the importance of access to all stories. This event complements our banned books display and is held in partnership with Libro.fm and Silent Book Club, who are generously providing the free audiobooks for attendees.
Stop by anytime between 3:00 and 6:00 PM to:
- ✍️ Visit our postcard station to write to your elected officials about why banning books harms communities. We’ll provide mailing addresses for our Assemblymember and State Senator, as well as prompts to help you get started—though your message will always be in your own voice.
- 🤫 Join us in a quiet read-in, showing solidarity with readers everywhere.
- 🎧 Take home a free audiobook of Lula Dean’s Little Library of Banned Books by Kirsten Miller (while supplies last). Prefer print? We’ll also have copies available to borrow from our shelves.
📚 Our accompanying banned books display will be available starting October 1st, featuring:
- Titles from the ALA’s list of most frequently challenged books of 2024
- Works by authors being honored at the Eleanor Roosevelt Banned Book Awards
This is a chance to raise your voice, reflect quietly with a good book, and take action to protect the freedom to read.
